Omg I was cut out of 90210 but still get residual checks. That was a real job that I auditioned for and had two lines, etc. I feel your pain. I got more screen time (and even lines dubbed in) when I was extra on My So Called Life (the pilot) and got pulled to be featured. I even ended up in the opening credits so my face was there for every airing. Didn’t get residuals for that one, though.

Anyway, I’ve loved reading both of your pieces and look forward to more. Glad I discovered you. :)

Ha, that's fantastic Amy! I only ever got the one check, but it was enough for what I needed at the time. I've known so many actors who have been cut from almost everything they every shot, and it just seems like you have to have a special kind of courage to work that way. Like everyone else I loved MSCL and was devastated when it got cancelled. I'm somewhere in the crowd in a few 21 Jumpstreet episodes, but I think that might have been accidental since they filmed it at my high school a lot!

Yes, that courage ran out for me at age 32 when I worked on a large film and made good money but was bored stiff the whole time. Also realized I was getting old by Hollywood standards. Theater is what was fun for me but paid crap or less than crap, so I decided I’d rather be bored stuff with a steady paycheck. So now I’m a corporate paralegal and I play piano and paint. And I just deposited a residual for $7 for Third Rock From the Sun. But MSCL is still the best show I ever worked on and I can’t believe it only ran for one season. :(

Yep, wise choices given the opportunities we had at the time. It seems like things might be s-l-o-w-l-y changing for women in Hollywood, both in front of and behind the camera, but I guess we'll see how that plays out in the long run. I only have one acting aspiration left: I want to be a special extra on a show that takes place in the Star Wars universe. I'd like to play like, an older sage or prophet or whatever the SW equivalent of a wise woman is. I don't need to speak any lines, but I just wanna make it to the screen, y'know?
